In January, we officially launched the community phase of our first ever Capital Campaign. We asked Board Vice President and Capital Campaign Co-Chair, Marjorie Melton, to share how she got involved in this campaign and how it will change the game for Sherwood.

SF: How and when did you initially get involved with Sherwood Forest?
MM: I was invited to a Blue Jean Ball and was immediately hooked.

SF: Describe the ways you have volunteered with Sherwood Forest over the years.
MM: I have volunteered in the Campsite Committee, Volunteer Trades Weekend and the Capital Campaign Cabinet.

SF: Describe your role with the Capital Campaign. Why did you take this role on?
MM: I am one of three Co-chairs for this campaign. I took on this role because Mary asked me to. That’s all it took.

SF: What is your favorite thing about Sherwood Forest? Or your favorite Sherwood Forest memory.
MM: My favorite thing about Sherwood is the look on the faces of the campers. I love seeing them grow in self-confidence.

SF: What are your hopes for the future of Sherwood Forest?
MM: I want to see the camp serve more campers. I want third graders to have to opportunity to complete all the way through leadership camp. I want Sherwood to continue to make a difference in the lives of kids and young adults. I would like “Support for Success” to continue to grow to help our campers be successful in college and beyond.

SF: How would you encourage someone to get involved in the Capital Campaign?
MM: I would invite a prospective volunteer to come to camp. That is the best way to see how great we are. I would also invite them to ask how they could help.

SF: Why do you think Sherwood Forest’s Capital Campaign is necessary?
MM: The capital campaign is necessary to implement improvements that will help the camp be sustainable for many years into the future. And I believe we are just getting started. Sherwood is way more than a camp but is a camp. That camp must be maintained and improved if we want it to be standing 50 years from now. And I do!
